Who likes bagels? Better question is who doesn’t love bagels. As a New York City resident they are definitely a staple, but I always end up with a few stale leftovers. What to do with the stale bagels then? Make bagel chips! They are the perfect way to repurpose your leftovers and are great for dips or even as croutons in your favorite soup!
Bagel Chips
Ingredients
- 6 regular bagels or 12 min bagels
- ¼ cup olive oil
- 2 TBSP butter
- 2 cloves garlic
- 1 TBSP onion powder
- Salt for sprinkling on top
- *If you have Adobo you can substitute 1 tablespoons for the onion powder
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 325 degrees
- Using a sharp serrated knife slice bagels either in round discs or in thin half or quarter bagel sections aiming for about ⅛ inch thickness. Be careful when slicing your bagels if they are stale, you don't want to cut yourself.
If your bagels are exceptionally stale & hard you can soften them in the microwave by wrapping them in a dampened paper towel and microwaving at 10 to 15 second intervals until soft - Finely dice garlic cloves
- In a small saucepan on medium heat melt the butter and combine with oil. Add in the garlic and onion powder. Let oil and butter mixture heat through and become fragrant stirring frequently, you don’t want it to boil. When fragrant remove from heat
- Arrange bagel slices on cookie sheet(s) and brush or drizzle oil & butter mixture over all slices, but don’t soak them, you will likely have extra left over. Sprinkle with salt (if desired)
- Bake in the oven for 15 to 20 minutes or until golden brown. Remove from the oven and allow to cool. Once cool serve with dip or store in an airtight container.
