The Traditional Shamrock shake is classic St Patrick’s Day dessert. Made famous by McDonald’s. Its essentially a vanilla shake with some added peppermint flavoring and some holiday color. Here I break down a simple recipe to make at home that is even better than the classic Peppermint shape that McDonald’s offers. The secret here is using vanilla bean ice cream. This hack will give your shake more flavor without the extra work and expense of adding more ingredients. Additionally I use heavy cream instead of milk to give it more of a full bodied taste, after all no one wants a watery milk shake. Then I top it off with some peppermint extract and some green food coloring for flavor and festiveness. Happy St. Patrick’s Day.

Ingredients

  • 4 Scoops Vanilla Bean Ice Cream
  • 1/2 cup Heavy Whipping cream
  • 1/2 tsp Peppermint extract
  • 3 drops green food coloring (add more for a deeper color green)
